Train Them or Transition Them
One of the worst things a leader can do is quietly give up on someone.
They’re not meeting expectations. They’ve made mistakes. So you stop giving them opportunities. You stop coaching. You stop leading them.
They’re still on the team—but now they’re on the bench. Marginalized. Confused. Drifting.
Here’s the truth:
If they’re not cutting it, you have two options—train them or transition them.
Correct. Coach. Confront.
Or release them with clarity and dignity.
But whatever you do—don’t ignore them.
Leadership is not passive. Hoping someone figures it out on their own isn’t leadership—it’s avoidance.
Today, think of one person you’ve quietly sidelined.
Now ask: Do they need intentional training—or an honest conversation about fit?
Lead them. Or free them. But don’t ghost them.
